ANAPLASTIC TUMORS

DEFINITION

Anaplastic Tumors

Anaplasia refers to the abnormal lack of differentiation in cells. It is characteristic of malignant tumors and usually refers to a reversal in cell differentiation. However, it can also refer to the failure of cells to differentiate in the first place. Highly anaplastic tumors can reproduce quickly and rapidly spread to other parts of the body, a process known as Metastasization.

Treatments

Treatment options will depend on how far the tumor has progressed. Anaplastic tumors that have infiltrated surrounding brain tissue cannot be easily removed.
