Brain Tumor Program- Case
3 - Aug 2009

Glioblastoma multiforme, also known as
grade 4 astrocytoma, is the most common and aggressive
type of primary brain tumor, accounting for 52% of
all primary brain tumor cases and 20% of all intracranial
tumors.
CASE STUDY:
This is a 58 year-old gentleman with
a glioblastoma of the left basal ganglia and midbrain.
he experienced significant right arm and right leg
weakness and required a wheelchair.
He received standard-of-care treatment
with radiation and temozolomide with no significant
change in the tumor on MRI, and no change in his weakness.
His chemotherapy regimen was then switched
to a different regimen created by NSPC physicians,
resulting in the dramatic improvement seen on MRI,
as well as improvement of his right-sided weakness.
The improvement was seen after approximately 2 months
of new therapy. The patient's quality of life has
also improved, and no significant side effects were
reported from the treatment.
