Mihai D. Dimancescu, M.D., is a
Board Certified Neurosurgeon with over 30 years of
experience in brain and spine surgery. He introduced
multiple new surgical techniques to several hospitals
in Nassau County, was a pioneer in microendoscopic
diskectomy (MED) of the lumbar spine and is a recognized
expert in the evaluation and management of coma.
Dr. Dimancescu received his undergraduate degree
from Yale University and his medical degree from the
University of Toulouse, in France. He completed a
year of Surgical Residency at Hartford Hospital in
Connecticut and a Neurosurgical Residency at the Albert
Einstein College of Medicine/ Montefiore Hospital
in New York as well as at Jackson Memorial Hospital
in Miami, Florida.
He started his neurosurgical practice in Nassau County
and is one of the founders of Neurological Surgery,
P.C. Since stopping his activities in the operating
room, he has continued to contribute his experience
as a neurosurgical consultant seeing patients in the
office setting for their neurological assessments
in preparation for possible surgery or non-operative
management.
Dr. Dimancescu has published multiple articles in
the field of neurosurgery and a book chapter on neurosurgery,
and has given multiple presentations at regional,
national and international neurosurgical meetings.
He has received multiple honors including "Best Doctors
in New York". He has also been an adjunct professor
of clinical neurology and of biomedical ethics.
Dr. Dimancescu is a member of the Congress of Neurological
Surgeons and of the American Association of Neurological
Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of
Surgeons. He serves as a Board member of South Nassau
Communities Hospital and as Chairman of the Hospital
Credentialing Committee and Chairman of the Hospital
Quality Review Committee. He also serves on the Hospital
Audit Committee and the Building Committee; for over
15 years, he chaired the Ethics Committee. In addition,
Dr. Dimancescu is Chairman of the Board of The Institutes
for the Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia,
is President of the Child Brain Development Academy
in Philadelphia, and is Chairman Emeritus of the Coma
Recovery Association on Long Island, NY. He is a past
president of the NY State Neurosurgical Society and
past president of the South Nassau Communities Hospital
Medical Staff.
