Post Angiogram Discharge Instructions :

arrow Care of Your Incision :

  • Take Tylenol for pain, no Aspirin.
  • You may shower 24 hours after the procedure. Allow steri strips (thin strips of Tape across the incision) to remain in place until they fall off. You may shower with these strips in place.
  • Groin Site may be cleaned with Soap and water only after 24 hours from procedure time and dry site thoroughly
  • Antibiotic Ointment aka Neosporin or Bacitracin may be applied to incision. No powders or lotions.
  • Site should be covered with band aid , a square adhesive band aid works well, for 3 – 5 days after the procedure, then you may leave incision open to air.
  • If band aid or dressing becomes wet, then remove and apply new clean dressing / band aid.
  • Do not sit in pool of water or bathtub for at least one week until the incision completely heals. Showering is permitted.
  • Fluid intake is encouraged except for alcohol for at least 24 hours.
  • You may resume your regular diet.

arrow Activity :

  • Resume normal activity in 7 days, including driving, letting pain be your guide.
  • Limit lifting over 10 pounds for one week until wound heals.
  • Refrain from strenuous activity & excessive stretching exercise for 5 - 7 days.

arrow Normal Observations :

  • Soreness or Tenderness that may last one week.
  • Mild oozing from incision site.
  • Possible bruising that could last for 2 weeks.
  • Formation of a small lump (dime or quarter size) which may last up to 6 weeks.

arrow Call Doctor immediately if you experience the following…

  • Significant bleeding that does not stop after 10 minutes of applying Firm pressure directly on the incision with a dressing.
  • Increased swelling of groin or leg
  • Unusual Pain at the groin or down the leg.
  • Signs of Infection : Redness, Warmth to touch, Drainage ( other than a little blood on the bandage ) , poorly healing incision, fever or chills.
  • Call Endovascular Surgeon if any of the following above occur. ( 516 ) 255 - 9031.
