A type of benign tumor that is located on the nerve that connects the ear to the brain, acoustic neuromas develop spontaneously and can affect both hearing and balance. As tumors grow, patients often experience hearing loss, ringing in the ears, dizziness, or balance problems. If not treated, tumors can cause numbness or paralysis of the face and can even be life-threatening.

While not all acoustic neuromas need to be treated, radiation or surgery is sometimes recommended. When surgery is the best course of treatment, it has a greater than 95% success rate. Using radiation beams, Gamma Knife Radiosurgery offers a single-session brain surgery that is bloodless and highly-effective. In most cases, patients are discharged the day of surgery.
