Our West Islip Neurosurgeons
Donald S. Krieff, D.O., F.A.C.O.S., has a wide range of neurosurgical experience, from level 1 trauma with head and spine injuries to elective surgery for brain and spine tumors. As he notes in his video, NSPC is dedicated to helping those with neck and back problems to get pain relief, whether this includes surgical treatment or not. He also believes that a physician should “take care of patients like you would a member of your own family”.
Dr. Krieff was especially drawn to NSPC because, unlike most private neurosurgical practices, NSPC is able to specialize because we’re a full-service organization that provides imaging studies, physical therapy and pain management along with exceptional neurosurgery options when needed.
Zachariah M. George, M.D. is a board-certified neurosurgeon who is dual-trained in both neurosurgical and orthopedic approaches to spine surgery. His specialized training allows him to expertly perform the most advanced, minimally invasive and open spine surgery procedures. Whether you have a more common disorder such as spinal stenosis or a herniated disc to more severe degenerative spinal conditions such as kyphosis, scoliosis, and spondylolisthesis or a spinal tumor, Dr. George is experienced in treating these conditions and more in both the pediatric and adult population. He also does revision spine surgery for those who have failed back syndrome. Employing the least invasive surgical solution is a passion of Dr George, and he is skilled in employing the most advanced tubular retraction systems to minimize tissue damage and blood loss, decrease post-operative pain and help lessen recovery time.
Alan Mechanic, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a neurosurgeon of brain and spine conditions including herniated cervical and lumbar discs, trigeminal neuralgia, spinal stenosis and brain tumors.
Dr. Mechanic is particularly interested in employing minimally invasive surgical techniques that involve a smaller incision and lead to faster healing times and offer a lower risk to patients. Along with using microsurgical techniques when treating herniated neck or back discs, he also is experienced in treating brain tumors with microsurgical and endoscopic techniques, including pituitary tumors, primary or metastatic brain tumors. Often stereotactic surgery which does not involve an incision can be used to great effect. As a neurosurgeon chosen 11 times by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. as one of “America’s Top Doctors”, Dr. Mechanic is an award-winning doctor who is acknowledged as the first Long Island neurosurgeon to treat a pituitary tumor with minimally invasive endoscopic techniques.
