Alexandros D. Zouzias, M.D., is a board-certified neurosurgeon specializing in complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He performs advanced neurological and spinal procedures using cutting-edge techniques, such as lateral access procedures for spinal fusion, cervical artificial disk replacement and percutaneous procedures for complex spinal reconstruction and pain control. His personal interest and medical philosophy is, when applicable, utilizing minimally invasive spinal surgery in order to minimize the downtime of spinal surgical procedures on each and every patient, allowing for faster recovery and return to daily life. Each patient is treated as a unique individual, keeping their personal needs in balance with the fundamentals of global spinal alignment and harmony.
Dr. Zouzias earned his degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in neurological surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), where he was named chief neurosurgical resident of both University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Hospital during his final year. He then went on to complete a complex and minimally invasive spine surgery fellowship at the University of South Florida in the department of neurosurgery and brain repair at Tampa General Hospital. Prior to joining NSPC he was an attending neurosurgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he performed the first lateral access fusion ever done at that hospital, in addition to helping develop both a minimally invasive spine program as well as a spinal neurotrauma program, allowing the hospital to certify as a Trauma Center. He has published multiple peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and his research work in minimally invasive spine surgery has been presented at national meetings.
